The impressive airships from the first half of the 20th century were, amongst many things, masterful feats of engineering. Their groundbreaking use of aluminium for the construction of the airship hulls is one such example. But behind the glitz and the media glare, the airships were actually a strange mix of both the cutting edge and the archaic.
